Diagnosis of placenta previa

It is sad, but until recently, the diagnosis of placenta previa as such was absent altogether. No, of course it was determined, but only by one sign - the presence of bleeding from the future mom in the second half of pregnancy.

The bleeding could be insignificant and short-lived, and vice versa - strong and not stop for a long time. But this did not prevent the diagnosis of placenta previa, since the blood was very different. It was bright scarlet and quite liquid, and not thick, as usual.

Bleeding during placenta previa begins as a result of natural stretching of the muscle walls in places of partial detachment of the placenta. We will try to explain in simple language.

The fact is that the muscle walls of the uterus during almost the entire period of pregnancy are reduced, while the placenta tissue is not capable of contraction. Thus, when the muscles of the walls of the placenta contract, exfoliate from the edge and move, the vascular outlets are exposed, and bleeding begins. It then subsides as a result of a natural vessel thrombosis, until the next contraction. What is fraught with, read the article: the danger of placenta previa.

But the benefit of medicine does not stand still and this type of diagnosis of placenta previa is already in the past, it was replaced by ultrasound diagnostics. Thanks to this method, doctors can diagnose presentation before the early stages of pregnancy, and not wait until the bleeding begins.

If the placenta previa was detected early, the physician will necessarily control its natural movement inside the uterus, which occurs as a result of an increase in the size of the fetus and its growth. To do this, re-ultrasound will have to pass at 16, 24-26 and 4-36 weeks of pregnancy. And already on the basis of the data obtained as a result of the diagnosis, a decision is made about how further observation and delivery will occur.

If during the diagnosis a massive placenta previa is detected, the future mom needs to undergo an ultrasound every three weeks, plus screening (read: how the screening is done) and early in the hospital (read: do you need to go to the hospital beforehand). With regard to childbirth, in this case, most likely, doctors will resort to cesarean section.
