Symptoms of hip dysplasia in children

The first signs of hip joint dysplasia in a baby can be discovered by the parents themselves, even before consulting an orthopedic surgeon, who will confirm (or refute) the diagnosis. But as practice shows, if this happens, then already with a severe form of the disease. Because the head of the femur released from the articular cavity is quite easy to detect, even without being a physician.

In all other cases, no knowledge of the symptoms of hip dysplasia in children allows caring mothers and fathers to notice the problem that has appeared. Only a qualified specialist can say something definite, because such phenomena as subluxation or anticipation of the hip joint practically do not manifest themselves in any way.

The main signs of dysplasia in children

Although it is very difficult to diagnose a disease at an early stage, it is necessary to know its signs. Perhaps it is this knowledge that will allow you, if you do not identify the problem, then at least suspect that something was wrong and go to the orthopedist. And this is half the battle.

So, the first sign of hip dysplasia is limiting the mobility of the hips. In practice, this may be manifested by the fact that the child begins to cry when trying to take his leg to the side.

The second symptom is the asymmetry of the inguinal and gluteal folds, which is also easy to see if the crumb lies exactly for at least a few seconds. On the damaged side, they become more pronounced and noticeable.

And now attention. These signs do not necessarily have to be symptoms of hip dysplasia. They may also indicate a violation of muscle tone. That is why the doctor should be engaged in diagnostics.

If, however, the child has a dislocated hip joint, then it (the joint) almost completely loses its function, as a result of which the leg becomes a little shorter. In this case, the so-called “click syndrome” occurs - this is when the femoral head slides off the surface of the joint when the leg is bent, and when diluted, it is repositioned.

We hope this knowledge of symptoms and signs will help you recognize the disease as early as possible and begin treatment promptly. In the meantime, to form a more complete picture of the disease, we recommend that you read the article: the causes of dysplasia in children.
